Allen Charles “Bossy” Boss was born August 28, 1929 to John & Mary (Fischer) Boss at the family farmstead near Kiowa, NE.  He attended Kiowa (College) in Kiowa, NE. He joined the U.S. Army in 1951 through 1953 during the Korean conflict. Allen was a mechanic instructor while he was in the service. When he returned home, he met Dorothy Sorge, his wife of 62 years at the 4th Street Grill in Deshler while Allen was working at Hobelmann Garage and Dorothy was working at the Deshler Dime Store. They married on September 25, 1955. They were blessed with six children, Carol, Jan, Kenny, Rose, Jon and Donna. After Hobelmann’s he worked for Bergt Brothers Sand Gravel and Ready Mix of Davenport for 36 years. After retiring, he went back to work at Superior-Deshler, now named Crop Production Services in Davenport. Retirement was too boring for Bossy. He worked right up to the last days of his life because he loved being BOSSY. They even named a truck after him. Bossy made a stranger a friend in a matter of minutes. No matter where he went someone knew him. If he gave you the fist shake, you were forever his pal! Allen was a member of the Davenport American Legion and received the “Quilt of Valor” on Memorial Day in 2017, also a member of Davenport Volunteer Fire & Rescue and received a 50 year member award. He and Dorothy are members of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Davenport where he served a number of years on the Board of Trustees. Bossy had many hobbies which included happy hour with friends, restoring Model A’s, repairing and restoring bicycles, fishing, go-cart racing and camping trips with family. Later in life his passion was spray painting metal art he made and giving it to family and friends. He also sold them at Junk Fairs which he loved to do with his daughter’s. Bossy was happy and enjoyed having family and friends around to visit with and enjoy a drink or two! He is preceded in death by his parents, son Kenny and sister Evelyn. Allen is survived by his wife Dorothy of Davenport, children Carol (Ronn) Pearson of Davenport, Jan (Dave) Larkins of Deshler, daughter-in-law Pat Boss of Davenport, Rose (Joe) Welch of Cozad, Jon Boss of Omaha, Donna (Shannon) Fowler of Hastings, 15 Grandkids, 23 Great-Grandkids and a host of friends and pals.
