Eulla Annie Gertsch, Chester, daughter of Thomas and Malena (Nelson) Cowell, was born June 18, 1935 at Riley, Kansas. She passed from this life Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Blue Valley Lutheran Home, Hebron, Nebraska at the age of 83 years. She graduated from high school in Clay Center, Kansas. On June 27, 1954 she was united in marriage to Carl E. Gertsch. He preceded her in death on November 6, 2003. Eulla's priority was to ensure that everyone who came into her life was well cared for. She, along with her husband Carl, raised seven children and juggled Girl Scout meetings, school and home birthdays, softball games, swimming lessons, fishing trips, and camping in the backyard just to name a few. Despite this active home life she had a long career caring for sick and elderly nursing home residents ensuring the maximum commitment to their individual needs. Not content to let a moment go by without taking care of someone or something she absorbed a host of pets including dogs, cats, hamsters, birds, ducks, geese and yes even a raccoon. Eulla also took time for herself in her deepest passion for love of gardening both inside and outside. She took great pride in gaining the victory over stubborn weeds, cold temperatures and little or too much rain. She also developed a love of genealogy and an interest in the history of her long-time residence. Eulla will be forever remembered by her daughters, Cathy Hicks, Nancy Meacham, Vicki Badger, and Cheryl Laurie; her sons, Russell Gertsch, Fred Gertsch, Steve Larson; several grandchildren; other relatives and friends. The family has chosen direct cremation services and will have a family inurnment at a later date. Price~Urbauer~Ahrendts Funeral Home, Hebron, Davenport, Deshler, Nebraska was in charge of these arrangements.
