After that he attended Deshler Public High School and graduated as the Valedictorian of the class of 1962. He began his career at Superior Deshler Company in 1964, as a Fertilizer Technician, prior to transitioning into his new position as "The Lennox Man" of Thayer County. While employed with Superior Deshler he joined the Army National Guard and was called up to active duty to Fort Carson Colorado in 1968. Upon his return from active duty he resumed his duties with Superior Deshler and had a career that spanned 48 years of service. After leaving that career he spent the next 2 years helping to establish his successor as the county’s next "Lennox Man". Norman married Peggy (Pundt) Cossel October 12, 1979, at St Peters Lutheran Church in Deshler. Together they raised 1 daughter Teresa Sorge Lunbery (Red Cloud, NE) and 2 boys, Anthony Cossel (Greenville, SC) and Robert Cossel (Newport Beach, CA). Norman was a car enthusiast and enjoyed purchasing and showing cars that meant a lot to him. He won numerous trophies in many categories with several different types of cars. That said, his prize possession was a 1951 Henry J Kaiser that he had tracked back to being purchased new by his Grandpa Kramp. He had the car completely rebuilt from the frame up, but was sadly, never able to put it into any car shows once it was completed. Norman was an avid bowler for many years participating in many tournaments and leagues during that time. He accomplished his crown jewel of a perfect game (300 score) on September 24, 2003, at Blue Valley Bowl in Hebron, NE. Norman was a Nebraska Husker sports fanatic. Win lose or draw, he never wavered in his support for his Cornhuskers.
