Alice Adina (Brendemuehl) Meyer, Kirchhoff was born September 5, 1925 at home in Stoddard, Nebraska to Leonard and Emma (Fintel) Brendemuehl. She was baptized September 20, 1925, and Confirmed on April 21, 1939 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Stoddard, Nebraska. Alice attended and graduated from Chester Public Schools on May of 1943. On May 9, 1943, she married Arthur Meyer at the Brendemuehl home in a double wedding ceremony with Otto Fintel (her uncle) and Violet Wolcott. Alice and Arthur lived on a farm in rural Deshler and have one son Steven Arthur Meyer. Alice worked as a secretary/bookkeeper at (Modern Appliance) Gambles in Deshler for over 20 years. During the summer Alice raised and processed about 500 chickens which she would sell to friends and relatives. She helped Art on the farm where they milked cows and raised chickens, pigs and sheep. Alice and her sister-in-law Lucille Meyer also hung wallpaper for 30 years. Arthur Meyer passed away on February 23, 1973. Alice married Edgar Kirchhoff on August 16, 1974 at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler Nebraska. They lived in Deshler and raised seed corn, Alice made many cookies and treats for the detasseling crews who helped during the summer. Edgar and Alice loved especially traveling to visit their children and grandchildren; they also enjoyed going on trips with friends, including Mexico and Hawaii. Edgar passed away February 26, 1999. Alice was always busy quilting and made numerous quilts and wall hangings that won many awards at the county and state fairs. She was a member of the Thayer County Quilt Guild. Alice was involved in the ladies organizations at Peace Lutheran Church and made many banners for the church. She also enjoyed playing all types of card games and belonged to various card groups. Alice was honored and pleased to be named Volunteer of the Year for the Thayer County Hospital in 1999; she helped the Thayer County Hospital Guild with their thrift store (Things and Stuff) for many years. Alice loved to garden and work in her yard. She enjoyed when her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren came to visit, and especially enjoyed celebrating her 90th birthday with family and friends. After a brief illness Alice passed away on October 14, 2019 at age 94. She is proceeded in death by her parents, first husband Arthur Meyer, and second husband Edgar Kirchhoff, sisters Leora Reed, and Delta Schmidt. She is survived by son Steven Meyer and wife Betty of Hebron, Nebraska, Step Daughter Beverly Seger and husband Charles of Waterloo, Iowa, Step Son Leland Kirchhoff and wife Debra of Santa Barbara, California, Step Daughter Arvilla Kirchhoff of Wellington, Colorado, Step Son Galen Kirchhoff and wife Candiss of Deshler, Nebraska. Grand children: Spencer Meyer of Santa Ana, California, Cassandra (Meyer) and Cody Cahill of Hastings, Nebraska, Kurt Seger and wife Angie of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Lora (Seger) Nissen and husband Bill of Moneta, Virginia, Andrew, Kevin and wife Sarahand Jeremy Kirchhoff of Santa Barbara and Leland’s daughters Sara and Joan Kirchhoff. Tacy (Schneller)Spiger of Wellington Colorado, Richard Schneller of Denver, Colorado, Austin and wife Linda Kirchhoff of Fishers, Indiana, Lydia and Mei Kirchhoff of Deshler, Nebraska.Great Grandchildren, Ansley and Elliston Cahill, Jase and Ella Seger, Jean, Daniel and Nigel James Jr, Spiger, Aurian Stosberg, Blaire, Harper and Sydney Kirchhoff. Sister-in-laws and Brother-in-laws Kenneth Schmidt and wife Gidge of Lincoln, NE, and Lynn Reed of Kansas, Verna Kirchhoff of Superior, Ne, Edna Reinke of Deshler, Gertrude Skucius of Hebron, Viola Kuhlman of Manhatten Ks, Louise Tietjen and husband Ted of Grant Ne and Erwin Pohlmann and wife Mae of Lincoln, NE, and a host of nieces and nephews and other friends.



Funeral services are Friday October, 18, 2019 at 1:30 at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler Nebraska. Price Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials to the family.
