Amy Jo (McLaughlin) Lohmeier the daughter of Jackie McLaughlin and Bethine (Wright) Woudenberg was born April 13, 1956 in Hebron, NE. She departed this life Monday, August 11, 2025 at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, NE at the age of 69 years. In her last selfless act on earth, Amy was an organ and tissue donor, giving others the opportunity to live fuller, healthier lives.
Amy attended school in Hebron, graduating in 1974. She married Tom Lohmeier in January 1979 at the First Christian Church in Hebron gaining a beloved daughter, Jennifer. Their union was blessed with the birth of two children Sam and Tamara. They resided in Hebron her whole life.
In her younger years she was always up for an adventure: planting trees in Texas, living in Colorado doing odd jobs and enjoying the mountains every chance she got, and driving race cars. She loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing, horseback riding and spending time in her flower gardens. And she loved animals, giving a home to many over the years. At one time the Lohmeier household had 5 dogs, 8 cats, 2 miniature horses, a pygmy goat, a Flemish giant rabbit, gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, a ferret, birds and fish all while living in town across from the hospital. There may have been a time onlookers saw a backyard escapee parade walking down Main or a Saint Bernard pulling a cart around town.
Amy worked various jobs over her career. She enjoyed cooking and large crowds were never a deterrent for her. In Hebron she cooked at the H&H Café, Ortman’s, Legion Club, Thayer Central Schools, Blue Valley Lutheran Homes and Parkview Haven/Meadowlark Heights. Her and her children delivered the Lincoln paper for 20+ years.
Over the years Tom & Amy opened their home to children in need and fostered ten children in long term placements and others for shorter times.
She was very proud of her children in all they did. Encouraging them to do everything to the fullest. She led by example and showed how to work hard. Being a grandmother brought her great joy.
She is preceded in death by her father, Jack McLaughlin and brother, Kurt McLaughlin.
Amy is survived by her husband Tom; children, Jennifer Lohmeier of Lincoln; Sam Lohmeier and wife Trish of Beatrice; Tamara Deepe and husband Trent of Hebron; mother Bethine Woudenberg of Shawnee, OK; stepmother Nancy McLaughlin of Fort Scott, KS; brothers, Ken McLaughlin of Lincoln; Kevin and wife Elda of Shawnee, OK; grandchildren, Tristen Ray, Macy, Ella and Jaxten Lohmeier of Beatrice; Jacob and Emmalyn Deepe of Hebron; sisters-in-law: Susan McWilliam and husband Gary of Grand Island; Nancy Lohmeier of York; Mary Lohmeier-Hass and husband Tom of Trumbull, CT; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and friends.
