Arlen Ludwig Ritterling born of William and Christina Ritterling October 3, 1936 in Rural Byron. Arlen attended

in Byron Nebraska. Arlen spent many hours pushing a tire swing for Verna and later her children. Arlen enjoyed playing with Renae, Wesley, Julie and Kevin. He was very creative we recall him building a teter totter with a piece of wood over a fence. Mom recalls Arlen building a teter totter out of a barrel and board. Arlen was a lifetime farmer. Arlen assisted Irma Marquart wall papering his home. Arlen worked very closely with his father William on the farm. Arlen made many home repairs including climbing to the top of the windmill to repair it. Arlen helped pick corn by hand to harvest. Arlen maintained the yard and helped his Mom Christina with gardening. Arlen took care of the chickens. Arlen loved animals, he enjoyed his cats and fed them well. Arlen was kind, soft spoken, caring, loving and gentle. Arlen always had a pleasant attitude, kind heart and always had good things to say about people. Arlen was a true example of how we are to live our Christian lives. Arlen along with William and Christina Ritterling were Renae's sponsor for her baptism. Arlen loved sports he spent many hours playing basketball with Kevin Fuller. Basketball was one of Arlen's passions. Arlen enjoyed watching Kevin play basketball in High School. Arlen spent many special moments with Wesley Fuller, Gary, Julie and Davin Hofeldt and Kevin, Denise, Lane, Bailey and Kobe Fuller. Arlen enjoyed visits with family and catching up on current events. Verna recollects how much Arlen loved outdoor movies in Byron on Saturday nights with his family as he was growing up. Arlen loved roller and ice skating and could out skate many of those around him. Arlen loved to take drives in the country. Arlen bowled with the family and loved it. Arlen loved to watch television. . Arlen read all of the local newspapers. He read every farmer's almanac. Arlen loved to read. Arlen enjoyed talk radio shows. Arlen was a true Husker fan. Arlen's favorite time of year was harvesting he assisted Brother in Law Gary Fuller and nephews Wesley and Kevin and enjoyed every moment of it. Arlen took some special vacations. One of his trips was with Marvin and Verlyn Marquardt in Western Nebraska and
South Dakota
. Arlen went with Verna's family to
Colorado
to visit Renae in
Denver
. Arlen loved the Mountains in
Colorado
. During this trip there was a blizzard and Gary, Verna, Kevin Fuller and Arlen ended up staying with Renae in her studio apartment due to road closures. Arlen lived with Verna and Gary Fuller until he fell ill. He took his illness in stride and was a true example of a believer. Arlen will be missed greatly but his memory will live on in our hearts forever.
