Dale Fred Wittrock of Davenport, Nebraska, son of Roy and Dora Johanna (Bohling) Wittrock, was born on August 28, 1940 in Davenport, Nebraska. He departed this life on April 29, 2023. Dale was a life-long member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Davenport. He was Baptized on September 15, 1940 and later confirmed on June 27, 1954 at the church.
Dale attended St. Peter’s Lutheran School through the 8 th grade, and then continued school at Davenport High School, graduating with the class of 1958.
After school, Dale worked for Kenny Buckles and Gene Schafer at Skelly’s, including driving a fuel truck.
Dale was drafted into the Army on October 31, 1963, stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He served in Vietnam as Military Police. He was discharged from the Army on October 29, 1965.
After serving his country, Dale returned to Davenport and became co-owner of the Northside Tavern. He also drove a truck for multiple employers, was co-owner of a scrap yard in Davenport, and drove a school bus.
Dale was a member of the Davenport Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years. He was a member of the American Legion. He was also a very active member in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, serving as Chaplain and State Commander.
Dale was a train enthusiast, loved collecting stamps, coins and MANY other things. He was also a Historian of all things Davenport. Dale was a beloved member of the Davenport community.
Dale is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Dora. He is survived by his sister Linda Wittrock of Davenport, Nebraska, cousins and many friends.
