Darrel Lee Bice Sr.
October 13, 1938 ~ March 19, 2015
Darrel L. Bice of Chester, NE, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2015 at the Republic County Hospital in Belleville, KS. He was born in Carleton, NE, on October 13, 1938 to Donald and Velma (Rachow) Bice. He attended Hebron High School before joining the United States Navy, serving from December 12, 1955 to September 24, 1959.
He married his wife of almost 50 years, Helen Baden on December 31, 1965 at the Lutheran Church in Concordia, KS. The family lived in various communities including Concordia and Superior until making their home in Chester in 1977. Darrel worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad and Foote’s Station in Chester. He also worked at the Hebron Cheese Factory, retiring in 2006.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Chester.
Darrel enjoyed hunting, fishing, Husker football and spending time with his family. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Helen; his children and their spouses, Darrel Bice Jr. of ScottsBluff, NE, Michelle (Lester) Schlichting of Beatrice, NE, Belinda (Mike) Bice-Kamler of Hastings, NE and Christina (Robert) Colson of Hebron, NE.
Those also left to cherish his memory are his 17 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Deanna Lynn; and 2 sisters, Marilyn Fischer and Rosalind Sterba.
A Memorial service will be held at the St. John Lutheran Church in Chester, NE on March 23, 2015 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Christopher Gerdes officiating. Burial of ashes will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Hebron, NE following the service. Memorial donations may be made to the family to be designated at a later date. Price Funeral Home of Hebron, NE was in charge of arrangements.
