Donna J. Torbeck

Donna Joyce Torbeck, the daughter of Donald Lewis and Vera Faye (Adams) Lewis was born on January 9, 1942 in Oxford, Nebraska. She was baptized in the Methodist Church in Arapahoe, Nebraska. Growing up on a farm southwest of Arapahoe, she attended public school there and graduated with the Class of 1960. Donna continued her education by going to Kearney State Teachers College, graduating in 1964. She began teaching in Deshler in the fall of that year. In 1967 Donna met her future husband, was confirmed in Peace Lutheran Church, and was united in marriage on December 22 to Kenneth Torbeck and they were blessed to observe their 50 ^th anniversary in 2017. Donna & Kenneth lived in town several years before moving to the country. Donna taught school in Deshler for several years and then became a full time farmwife helping to do whatever was needed. Later she began working at the Blue Valley Care Home in Hebron. She really enjoyed this period of her life as she formed a strong bond with the staff and the special people they were privileged to serve. Throughout the years, Donna maintained a close bond with her fellow classmates, communicating and getting together with the gals. Donna passed from this life Friday, March 16, 2018 at the Thayer County Hospital at the age of 76 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Erwin and Mathilda Torbeck; nieces, Rachael Rose Lewis and Sharon Konz. Donna will be forever remembered by her husband, Ken; brother, Dale Lewis; sister-in-law, Nancy Lewis sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Karen and Galen Schneider; nieces, Carrie Lewis, Jennifer (Jeremy) Lewis-Jackson and Rhonda (Richard) Manthei; nephew, Mike (Michelle) Konz; uncle and aunt, John and Wanda Lewis; aunt, Gertrude Torbeck; several cousins; many friends; and her faithful dog "Cookie".
