Dorothy M. Sorge, the daughter of George Heyen and Mary (Garrels) Heyen, was born on November 13, 1936 in Deshler, Nebraska. She passed away on September 22, 2011 at 74 years old with her family by her side in Lincoln, Nebraska. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Floyd Sorge. She was baptized at Saint Paul Lutheran Church, rural Deshler, Nebraska on November 22, 1936 and was confirmed in March 1951 at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in rural Deshler, Nebraska. She went to country school at rural District 44 by Deshler. Dorothy was a business owner with her husband Floyd for nearly 25 years. The family moved to York, NE for a period of time. She graduated from Platte College in 1971 as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Dorothy was employed as a nurse for many years. She was employed at York General Hospital and worked in geriatrics for many years. Floyd and Dorothy returned to Deshler several years ago, where she became a Pastoral Minister Associate in 1991 and assisted in various congregations. She assisted her husband Floyd with mowing cemeteries, delivering meals on wheels, circle member at Peace Lutheran Church and was a member of the auxiliary for the American Legion. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; George and Mary Heyen. Brothers; William and wife Anna, Alvin and wife Inez, Richard, Clarence, Louis and Ernest. Dorothy is survived by one son; David Sorge of El Paso, Texas and two daughters; Ruth and Patty Sorge of York; seven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Dorothy has three surviving brothers; Harold and wife Joyce Heyen of Ceresco, NE; Leonard Heyen of Ruskin, NE; and Walter and wife, Blanche Heyen of Hastings, NE. Dorothy has one surviving sister-in-law; Leona Heyen of Hastings, NE. Dorothy had many aunts, uncles and nieces.
