Eugene A Dudgeon

Eugene Alex Dudgeon was born on June 5, 1932, on a farm near Carleton, NE to Alexander and Sarah (Steyer) Dudgeon. He passed away on February 8, 2021 at the age of 88 years.

Gene was baptized on June 15, 1951, at the United Church of Christ in Belvidere. He attended elementary school at Coon Ridge SchoolandHigh School in Carleton.

He was united in marriage to Betty Lou Valek on February 14, 1951. They had five children, Jacqueline, Cynthia, Teresa, Michael and Sandra. Gene spent 3 years in Grand Island with Fairacres Dairy, as an out of town delivery driver. He then returned to the family farm near Carleton.

Gene was a deacon and elder of the United Church of Christ in Belvidere and later in 1965 the Hebron Christian Church. Then in 1999 back to the United Church of Christ in Belvidere.

Gene served on the board at the Thayer County Farm Services Agency for several years. He was on the School Board District 11 and the church board in Hebron and Belvidere. He was a member of the Country Club in Hebron and also the Lions Club.

He enjoyed fishing and boating with friends and family, and loved to play golf. He also enjoyed gardening after retiring from farming and always shared his garden produce with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Sarah Dudgeon, and daughter, Cynthia. He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters, Jacqueline (Roy) Nunnenkamp of Henderson, NE, Teresa (Roger) Hofts of Hebron, Sandra (Larry) Volf of Broomfield, CO, son, Michael (Dawn) Dudgeon of Stromsburg, NE; 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Verla Dudgeon of Lincoln, NE; many other relatives and friends.

Viewing will be Sunday, February 14, from 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM only at Price Funeral Home, Hebron.

Memorials will go to the Alzheimer Association.
