, age 86, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 18, 2012, at Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home. Evelyn was born on January 31, 1926 in
Burke
,
South Dakota
and was adopted by Mr. & Mrs. John Gorgen of Central City,
Nebraska
, on December 14, 1932. Evelyn graduated from Central City High School in 1944 and from St. Francis School of Nursing in
Grand Island
in 1947.In October 1948, she moved to
Hebron
to work at the
Hebron
Hospital
. Evelyn met Henry Wiedel and they were married on October 19, 1949 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in
Hebron
.Henry and Evelyn lived their entire life in
Hebron
.Evelyn retired from the hospital in 1987 after almost 40 years of service. Evelyn enjoyed her family, bowling, playing cards, walking, watching baseball and embroidery. All of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren have received table clothes and baby blankets that she embroidered. This past Christmas, she made pillowcases for each of her great-grandchildren. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, John and Evelyn Gorgen, brothers, John and Floyd, infant twin sons, Anthony and Timothy, and nephew Lawrence Gorgen. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Henry; daughter, Janice (Jim) Bell of Fairbury; sons: Doug (Colleen) of Lafayette, IN, Karl (Sallie) of Hebron, Brian (Angie) of Pleasant Dale; daughter, Jannel (Will) Burns of Harlingen, TX; grandchildren: Bradley (Lisa) Bell, Bridget (Travis) Cobb, Bethany (Mike) Hansmire, Christopher Wiedel, Sara Wiedel, Shawn (Meghan) Wiedel, Andrew Wiedel, Sarita Burns, Austin Burns; great-grandchildren: Ashlyn, Landon, Hadley Cobb, Molly and Morgan Hansmire, Conner Wiedel, Olivia Jenkins and Kathryn Wiedel.
