Gary W. "Chip" McMains, 59, of Hebron, NE, passed away on May 8, 2014, at the Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home in Hebron, NE. He was born in Hastings, NE on March 29, 1955, the son of Gerald and Madeline (Reed) McMains.





He grew up in Hastings for the first 2 years of his life and then moved to Burr Oak, KS through his school years. He also spent a short time in Lincoln, KS, after going to school at the Vo-Tech College. He later moved to Hebron, NE in 1975. Gary was a member of the Burr Oak Christian Church, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, awarded Eagle Scout, 4-H, the Sons of the American Legion, Saxton Post #180, and the Hebron Fire Department where he held several titles and positions including a term as the Fire Chief, an EMS Instructor and also a member of the underwater rescue team.





Gary enjoyed auto racing, blue rock shooting, and bowling where he had won trophies in each. He loved his friends and family and his grandchildren were the light of his life.





Those left to cherish his memory are his children and their spouses, Lyle and Sierra McMains of Burr Oak, KS, and Shelly and Lee Heiselman of Bellevue, NE; a brother, Larry and his wife Shirley of Burr Oak, KS.





Those also left to cherish his memory are 9 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; a nephew, Nate and his wife Tessa of Burr Oak, KS; and nieces, Lisa Hornbussel of Burr Oak, KS, and Tracie Turner and her husband Jeff of Brandon, MS; and numerous other relatives and friends.





Gary was preceded in death by his parents.





Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 10:00 am at the First Community Church in Hebron, NE with Pastor Steven Speichinger officiating. Visitation will be at Price Funeral Home in Hebron Monday, May 12, 2014 from noon to 8:00 PM with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial will be in the Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak, KS following the service. Memorials are suggested to the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department or the Christian Church in Burr Oak, KS. Condolences may be sent to Price Funeral Home, or left at priceurbauerahrendts.com. Price Funeral Home of Hebron, Nebraska was entrusted with the arrangements.
