Gertrude Charlotte Brandt, 88, of Nora, NE passed away March 24, 2015 at Blue Valley Lutheran Homes in Hebron, NE at the age of 88 years, 7 months and 20 days. Gertrude was born on August 4, 1926 to Carl and Erna (Eilers) Hinz in Nelson, NE. She was baptized in the Christian faith on June 1, 1927 at Nora, NE. She was confirmed on June 17, 1945 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Ruskin, NE. After graduating from Nelson High School she was a teacher for several years where she taught elementary school near Oak and Davenport, NE. After teaching Gertrude, was employed at the Five and Dime Store in Superior, NE until she married. On March 16, 1947 she was united in marriage to Donald Roy Brandt at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Ruskin by Pastor Walter Moose. They lived and worked on several farms near Ruskin until they bought the current family farm in 1960 near Nora. Gertrude was always supportive of Donald’s farming by helping in the field during planting and harvesting time; or letting him bring in chicks, newborn calves and pigs in to the house to keep warm and dry. They were blessed with six children; Barbara, Darrell, Leslie, Marilyn, Cheryl and Roberta. For many years she worked at the Broken Spoke as a cook and waitress. Gertrude enjoyed working in her flower garden, cooking and baking, embroidery, and sewing quilts. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Erna Hinz; four brothers, Eldred, Raymond, James and LeRoy; and her beloved young daughter Marilyn Louise. She is survived by her husband, Donald; three daughters and two sons and spouses, Barbara Debrick of Littleton, CO, Darrell and Nancy Brandt of Edwardsville, IL, Leslie and Joetta Brandt of Ruskin, NE, Cheryl Hoops of Freeport, IL, and Roberta Brandt of Victorville, CA; sixteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren; four sisters, Margie Zoch of Enid, OK, Darlene and Dick Medina of Deshler, NE, Shirley Hinz of Lincoln, NE and Rose and Larry Plock of Deshler, NE; and many nieces and nephews and other family members. Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, March 30, 2015 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Ruskin, NE with Pastor B.J. Fouts officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Creek Cemetery near Ruskin following the service. Visitation will be from Saturday from Noon to 8:00 PM and Sunday from Noon to 8:00 PM with family receiving friends on Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Price Funeral Home in Hebron, NE. Memorials may be made to St Mark Lutheran Church or to the Blue Valley Lutheran Homes. Casket bearers were Lee Brandt, Christian Debrick, Nathan Brandt, Benjamin Debrick, Brandon Hoops, Eric Brandt, Nicholas Debrick and Tyler Hoops. Mother was a true Blessing to our Family and will be greatly missed but the family rejoices in the fact that she trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and is now "HOME" living her new life in the loving arms of her Lord. Price Funeral Home of Hebron, Nebraska, is entrusted with these arrangements.
