Henry A. Wiedel, 89 of Hebron passed away Monday, November 10, 2014, at Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home, Hebron, NE. Henry was born on July 3, 1925 on the family farm outside of Hebron to Bernard & Elizabeth Wiedel.
Upon graduation from Hebron High School in 1943, he entered the Navy. While in the Navy, he served as Signalman Third Class, which meant he was always on the same ship as Admiral Nimitz. He served throughout the Pacific Theatre on the USS Wisconsin then returned to Hebron and went into business with his Uncle Bill Wiedel, at the Hebron Dairy. It was while he was delivering milk that he met Evelyn Gorgen and after 5 months, they were married. After leaving the Dairy, he went to work at Central Market. In 1969, he purchased Wiedel Clothier from Bud Hill. He sold Wiedel Clothier in 1995.
Henry’s involvement in the community included the Hebron Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, American Legion Saxton Post 180, VFW Gold Star Post #5328, Member of the School Board and Member of the Hospital Board. Henry was a 4 th Degree Knight of Columbus, member of the Chalice Club and served on numerous committees at the Church.
Henry and Evelyn enjoyed bowling and playing cards, however their greatest joy was their family.
Henry and Evelyn were married October 19, 1949 and were married for 63 years.
Henry is survived by Janice (Jim) Bell of Fairbury, Doug (Colleen) Wiedel, of LaFayette, IN, Karl (Sallie) Wiedel of Hebron, Brian (Angie) Wiedel, of Pleasant Dale, NE and Jannel (Will) Burns of Harlingen, TX, 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Also surviving Henry are twin brother Herbert (Dolores), Ernest (Darlene), Edward (Norma) Wiedel, Genevieve Dvorak, Kathleen Thompson, Jeannette (Don) Dutcher, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Henry was predeceased by wife Evelyn in 2012, infant twin sons, Timothy and Anthony, parents, Bernard & Elizabeth Wiedel, sisters, Lorraine Schnegelberger and Bernadine Timmermans.
Rosary will be held on Friday, November 14 at 7 pm at Price Funeral Home in Hebron and Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron on Saturday, November 15 th at 10 am with burial to follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery with Fr. Rudy Oborny officiating. Pallbearers are Gregg Wiedel, Alan Wiedel, Neil Wiedel, Dale Wiedel, James Timmermans, Tom Gorgen, and Doug Modlin.
