Irene A. Davis

Irene Davis, 92, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2013 at the Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home in Hebron.

Irene, daughter of W. Earl and Dina (Hespen) Schaeffer, was born February 27, 1921, at a farm near Ruskin. She was baptized on March 13, 1921 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church and confirmed on September 2, 1934. She graduated from Ruskin High School and taught school for one year.

Irene married John F. Davis on September 16, 1939. Four children, Carol, Stanley, Betty, and Dixie, were born to this union. In the early years of their marriage, they lived in several Nebraska towns with the majority of the time residing in Hebron and Geneva. Irene will be remembered as the "Avon Lady" and the "Bunny Bread Girl" and for her love of playing cards and fishing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents, Earl and Dina Schaeffer; one brother, Eugene; brothers-in-law, Willard Christensen and Victor Fisher; an infant sister, Mildred, and a great-grandson, Cade Petersen.

Irene is survived by one son, Stanley (Erlene); three daughters, Carol (Douglas) Marsh, Betty Davis, and Dixie (Kurt Saltzman) Davis, all of Lincoln; three sisters, Helen Buckles of Hebron, Pauline Fisher of Kearney, and Bertha Christensen of Superior; one brother, Harry Schaeffer of Lincoln; one sister-in-law, Aleene Mills of Geneva; six grandchildren, John (Teri) Dageforde, Matt (Jen) Dageforde, Darcy (Byron) Clymer, Kris (Jay) Petersen, Eric (Erica) Marsh, and Jana (Troy) Post; twelve great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron, NE on Friday October 11, 2013 at 10:30 AM with burial following at the Davenport City Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Price Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Blue Valley Lutheran Homes.
