Jack D. Spickelmier, 79, of Bruning, NE, passed away on January 16, 2014, at the Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home in Hebron, NE. He was born in Alexandria, NE on August 8, 1934, the son of Joseph and Mary (Johnson) Spickelmier.
He grew up on the family farm near Alexandria, NE and graduated from Bruning High School. Jack married Jean Deepe on June 9, 1956 in Bruning, NE. Jack joined the United States Army, serving from 1956 to 1958 and was stationed in Germany.
Jack was the manager of the Purina Feed Store in Bruning for many years. He was the President of the Volunteer Fire Department in Bruning, and pitched Triple A Baseball in Geneva, coached Legion Baseball in Hebron and Bruning and was on the bowling league in Hebron. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing horseshoes.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children and their spouses, Denise and Doug Deterding of Cambridge, NE, Kris and Steve Myers of Fort Collins, CO, and Keith Spickelmier of Houston, TX.
Those also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Dustin Deterding and his wife Emily, Jesse, and Sierra Deterding, Kyle Myers and his wife Olivia, and Haley Myers; and great grandchildren, Gavin and Logan Deterding, and Jackson Myers.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Goldie and Wanda; and brothers, Gordon, Kenneth, Lawrence and Dean.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 1:30 PM at the Bruning Lutheran Church in Bruning, NE. Memorials are suggested to the Bruning Volunteer Fire Department or the Blue Valley Lutheran Homes. Condolences may be sent to Price Funeral Home, or left at priceurbauerahrendts.com.
