Karen Elizabeth Rivard Williams, 33 of Harwood , Texas , died on October 11, 2011 after a sudden illness. A former resident of Luling , Texas , Karen was born July 25, 1978 and raised in Leominster , MA . She joined the United States Air Force after graduating from Leominster High School in 1996, and served four years at Brooks Air Force Base, Texas as a photographer, which was one of her passions. Through high school and the military, Karen volunteered at animal shelters and rescue programs. Karen dedicated her life to caring for and bettering the lives of all animals. She founded an animal shelter at Brooks Air Force Base with her own hard work and the donations from officers' wives. The love for animals led Karen to become a veterinarian technician. She worked at Tufts University in Worcester , MA , Plum Creek Veterinary Clinic in Luling , TX , Hays County Veterinary Clinic in San Marcos and Emergency Clinic in New Braunfels , TX .Karen leaves behind her husband of two years, David "Chucky" Williams; her parents, Rita DiRocco of West Townsend, MA and Richard Rivardof Fitchburg, MA; her grandfather, Romeo Rivard; grandmother, Luzia Brettschneider and Robert and Jeanette Williams; her sister, Kristine VanWesten and husband Jeremy of Alexandria, NE; niece, Kylee Van Westen; step sister, Jennifer Doughty and son, Kyle Fisher of Fitchburg, MA; step brother, Christopher DiRocco and wife Cynthia of California; step sister, Nicole DiRocco of MA; brothers-in-law, Robert Williams, Jr. and Richard Williams; sisters-in-law, Tia Williams, Blair Williams, Janette Williams and Jessica Williams; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Celebration of life services were held Saturday, October 15, 2011 at O'Bannon Funeral Home in Luling , Texas . A funeral mass was celebrated Monday, October 17, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Alexandria, Nebraska with Father Rudy Oborny officiating. Burial was in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. Price Funeral Home, Hebron , Nebraska was in charge of local arrangements.
