Kathlene A. Berkey

Kathlene Ann McIntosh, daughter of Thomas and Angie McIntosh, was born at home December 4, 1931 on a farm in Custer County north of Weissert, Nebraska. She passed from this life while a resident of Parkview Haven, Deshler, Nebraska. As a fourth grader, Kathlene’s family moved to a farm near Westerville, Nebraska and in 1944 they moved to Sargent and she attended and graduated from Sargent High School in 1949. She worked for the local telephone company and in 1950 Duane Berkey came to teach at Sargent High School. They were married in May of 1951 and were blessed with four sons; Bill, Tom, Dallas, and Cleve. Duane took a teaching job near Denver, Colorado and the family moved there. In 1965 he began working for State Farm Insurance and they moved to Lander, Wyoming. After six plus years, they moved backed to Denver and lived there until he retired in 1994. They moved to Davenport, Nebraska where she made her home till moving into Parkview Haven. Kathlene was preceded in death by her husband Duane in 2009; her sons Bill, Tom and Dallas; and brother Norman. She will be forever remembered by her son Cleve and wife Dee Berkey of Davenport, NE; five grandchildren; Jacob, Ross, Drew, Karl Berkey and Jennifer Wood; 5 great grandchildren, Miles, Bella, Vera, Osiris, Aiden; daughter-in-law Rebecca Jensen, Phoenix, AZ; and brother Tom & Karen McIntosh, Fredrick, CO; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 30, 2015 at Christ Lutheran Church, Davenport, Nebraska with Pastor Kristen VanStee officiating. Burial was in the Davenport Cemetery. Music was provided by Deb Johnson, organist and a Trio of Kathy McKain, Beverly Bobbett, and Julie Mattson. Musical numbers included Amazing Grace, Precious Lord Take My Hand, How Great Thou Art, and My Life Flows On In Endless Song. Casket bearers were Cleve Berkey, Tom McIntosh, Karl Berkey and Norris McIntosh. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Urbauer-Price-Ahrendts Funeral Homes of Davenport, Deshler, Hebron, Nebraska.
