Larry Dean Dankenbring was born on March 20, 1939 to Oscar and Frieda (Muehling) Dankenbring in Hebron, Nebraska and passed away Friday, March 31, 2016 at St. Elizabeth’s Health Center in Lincoln, Nebraska having just celebrated his 77 th birthday. Larry was baptized at Grace Lutheran Church, Hebron on April 9, 1939, graduated high school from Hebron High in May, 1957, and graduated from Doane College in 1961. He received his Master’s Degree from UNL and was 18 credits away from receiving his PhD. Larry has three sisters, Verna Smith and Evelyn Harris from Lincoln, Nebraska, and Donna Schmidt of Deshler, Nebraska. Larry married Karen Ann Brinegar on October 24, 1958 in Carleton, Nebraska. They were blessed with four children: daughter Debra and husband Dale Patton, Branson West, Missouri, son Robert and wife Hope Dankenbring, Hebron, Nebraska, son William and Wife Lisa Dankenbring, Gunter, Texas, a son Brad and wife Lori Dankenbring, Edmond, Oklahoma. Larry’s pride and joy was his seventeen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Larry coached and taught at Auburn, Nebraska for 15 years and started his insurance career in Nelson, Nebraska and continued his career in Hebron at New Frontier-Thayer County Insurance which he was a former owner. After semi retiring, Larry found his passion in spending a lot of his time golfing. Larry and Karen enjoyed traveling all over the world to several countries and the United States. Larry’s last few years were spent teaching his grandchildren how to golf and going to their school and summer activities. Larry loved going to coffee in the mornings with his friends in Hebron, and the surrounding communities of Nelson and Davenport where he still has many friends. Larry’s most enjoyable and memorable times of his life was coaching and teaching, but he loved coaching! One of his family’s fondest memories is that for some reason Larry thought DISH only had a remote with one button, "sports?"
Memorial services were held Monday, April 4, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church, Hebron, Nebraska with Pastor Mark Baldwin officiating. Following Larry’s wishes, a family inurnment service will be held at a later date in the Hebron City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church or the American Heart Association. Urbauer-Price-Ahrendts Funeral Homes of Davenport, Deshler, and Hebron, Nebraska were entrusted with these arrangements.
