Lawrence James Holtzen, son of James Holtzen and Nancy (Cline) Holtzen, was born December 13, 1982 in Fort Collins, Colorado and sadly passed from this life Sunday, November 11, 2018 in Hebron, Nebraska. He was baptized on January 23, 1983 at Saint Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fort Collins, Colorado by Pastor Hagedorn. His Christian sponsors were grandparents, Mary Cline and Larry Holtzen. Larry was diagnosed at six months with Tuberous Sclerosis. He received his special education at Foothills Gateway, Johnson Elementary, Werner Elementary while living in Fort Collins. In 1996 he moved with his mother and sister Julia to a farm house west of Belvidere, Nebraska. Larry continued his education at Hebron High School. Larry, Julia and Nancy became members at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Deshler in 1999. In September of 2001 Nancy married Dale Hoops, so Larry, Julia and their mom moved to a farm south of Deshler. He started going to Region V day services in February 2001, then in October 2003 he was placed in Region V housing where he lived until the present.



Larry enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune, chocolate, root beer, music, noisy toy cars, lights, bubbles, wheelchair rides, motorized bicycle, outings with roommates, Region V dances, and especially his trip to Branson, Missouri.



Larry will be forever remembered by his parents, Nancy and Dale Hoops, and James and Karen Holtzen; sisters and brothers-in-law, Julia (Holtzen) and Will Schweer of Bruning, Kendra (Hoops) and Matt Kristalyn of Seward; nephews, Finn and Ezra Kristalyn also of Seward; grandparents, Larry and Deanna Holtzen of Deshler; aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family at Region V. He is preceded in death by grandparents, Paul and Mary (Gardner) Cline, Wilber and Arlene Hoops, aunts, Diana Cline, Lisa Holtzen and Susan Hoops, uncles, Kim Rekart and Dennis Hoops and cousins Eric Rekart and Christina and Elizabeth Powers. Funeral services were held Monday, November 19, 2018 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Deshler, Nebraska with Pastor Brian Francik officiating. Family inurnment will take place in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Deshler at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family’s choice to be designated in the future.
