Leonard Thomas Heyen

Heaven received another Grandpa.

Leonard Thomas Heyen passed away on November 21, 2024.  He was born to George and Mary (Garrels) on September 8, 1933 in Deshler, NE one of 10 children.

Leonard spent most of his life around the Deshler area farming and in the agricultural industry.

Leonard served in the Army and remained proud to continue with the American Legion in Ruskin.

Leonard was married to Ulala (Meyer) for 24 years and they had two daughters, Verlene (Tom) Melton and JLeiLani Carlisle (passed May 31,2023), 3 grandchildren Brandon Saxton (passed December 2, 2023), Amira and Andrew Leffler.

Leonard received an additional 25 years of happiness with his best friend Jureta Hinz.  With Jureta’s extended family Leonard again had many blessings including additional grandson Andrew Hinz, additional granddaughters Carlee Rizek and McKenna Bunch.

Leonard and Jureta shared many trips with Verlene and Tom and many family gatherings with the Hinz extended family.  Leonard’s favorite past time would be having the grandchildren visit and traveling the countryside with his grandson Brandon, mowing yards and checking on crops, just enjoying each other’s company.  Additionally an occasional gambling trip with Jureta and good friend Keith Hillman.  Leonard always expecting to win and most often would come home ahead.

Leonard’s brothers, William, Alvin, Lewis, Clarence, Richard, Walter, Harold and Ernest and sister Dorothy Sorge, daughter JLeiLani Carlisle and grandson Brandon Saxton preceded him to God’s Kingdom.
