Lila J. Schroeder

Lila Janelle (Mussmann) Schroeder, the eleventh child of twelve children born to Bernard and Edna (Wegener) Mussmann, was born November 21, 1944 at the farm home rural Ruskin, Nebraska. She was called to her heavenly home Saturday, April 20, 2019 at Thayer County Hospital, Hebron, Nebraska at the age of 74 years, 4 months, 29 days. The Rite of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life will beTuesday, April 23, 2019 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Davenport, Nebraska with Pastor Greg Schaffer officiating with burial at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Davenport by her children Jean Lanelle, Thomas Edwin and Brett Nathan. Lila was received into God’s family thru baptism by Rev. Leege, December 1944 and confirmed her faith thru confirmation by Rev. Jack Schmidt, March 1959 both at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Ruskin, Nebraska. On September 22, 1963 she was united in marriage to Russell Schroeder also at St. Mark’s, by Rev. Melvin Thur. This union was blessed with five children: Michael David, Scott Douglas, Jean Lanelle, Thomas Edwin and Brett Nathan. When Lila was diagnosed with scleroderma and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in March 2010 and cancer in April 2014, Proverbs 3:5 became her stronghold, "Love the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." Lila worked at the local grocery store for 25 plus years, where she got to know and enjoy many people. Preceding her in death were their three children in 1987 in car/train accident, Jean Lanelle, Thomas Edwin and Brett Nathan; parents Ben and Edna Mussmann; sisters, Wilma (Otto) Moeller, Norma (Elia Gruber and Virgil Bohling), Hildreth (Marvin) Frietag, Claris (Martin Poppe), (Albert) Samsula, Janette Mussmann, and Loretta Mussmann; brothers Orlin Mussmann, Wilbur Mussmann; brother-in-law Larry Biltoft; sister-in-law Carol Schroeder; Godson Craig Maschmann; parents-in-law Edwin and Anne Schroeder. Lila enjoyed very much being with the grandchildren and attending their sports, drama and music activities when possible. She especially enjoyed the Christmas Eve service of 2002 at St. Peter’s when all nine grandchildren were in the program. She also loved her 37 nieces and nephews who she pretty much grew up with. She also loved her great and great, great nieces and nephews.
