Lucille Rae Kaenel, daughter of John "Jack" and Bessie (Verley) Kaenel, was born September 20, 1943 at home in Chester, NE. She passed away on May 2, 2021 in Geneva, NE at the age of 77. She attended public school in Hebron, NE until her senior year. She graduated from Fairbury High School in 1961. She married George Gerdes on December 27, 1960. To this union four children were born: Patty, Charlotte, George and Chance. They made their home in the Davenport area. She owned and operated Lucille’s Beauty Shop from 1966 to 2020. In the early 2000s, Lucille purchased the Base Hit Bar. She married Gene Henry on September 9, 2002. After a fire destroyed the bar in February 2011, she was adamant to rebuild for her community. She continued to run the bar until September 2015. Lucille is survived by her children Pat (Gerdes) Norris of Denton, NE, Charlotte (Gerdes) Sell and husband, Stuart, George Gerdes, and Chance Gerdes, all of Davenport, NE; grandchildren Anna (Sell) Elting, and husband Reuben of Davenport, NE, Jerrod Sell and fiancé Yaroslava Gubareva of Moscow, Russia, and Conrad Sell and wife, Chelsea, of Strang, NE; and great-grandchildren Rexton, Raylan and Rory Elting. She is also survived by sister Linda (VonKaenel) Arnold and husband Mike, of Gallatin, MO, and many special people she included as her family. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene; brothers, Robert, George Harold, Lester, and Dale; sisters, Jacqueline (in infancy) and Phyllis Hallman; and son-in-law, Patrick Norris.
