Martha Rebecca Wilhelms was born on June 12, 1929 in Gilead, Nebraska, the daughter of Charles L. and Mary (Johnson) McGregor. She passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at the Country View Manor in Sibley, Iowa, at the age of 85.
She lived her youth in Hebron, Nebraska where she attended St. Andrew’s Catholic School and Hebron High School.
Martha was united in marriage to Norris "Nig" Galt Wilhelms of Chester, Nebraska on July 2, 1949 in Hebron. They lived in Chester where Martha was a homemaker and worked at various jobs in the community. She was very active in different societies with skits and fund raising. Norris passed away in 1985. Martha then worked as a Librarian in Chester.
Martha lit up every room she entered with a smile, a joke, or a story. Over the years she shared her love of life with others reading stories to children at the library, volunteering her creativity to her local church, and performing skits and sharing stories with residents at the Senior Citizen Center. Martha loved to crochet beautiful doll dresses, read and do crossword puzzles. She was a much loved mother and grandmother, and will be deeply missed.
Those left to cherish her memories are her two sons and daughters-in-law: Charles N. and Audrey Wilhelms of Exira, IA and Bruce W. and Yvonne Wilhelms of Sibley, IA; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norris "Nig" Wilhelms, her parents and her older brother and sister.
