Mary Sue McCubbin, daughter of William Taylor and Mary Jane (Simmons) Hancock, was born August 23, 1924 at Ft. Smith, Arkansas. The family lived in the river bottom area near Paris, Arkansas. Her father Taylor died a few days before her third birthday, leaving her mother to raise seven children and care for her grandmother. She graduated from Paris High School, graduated as a Registered Nurse from Baptist State College, Little Rock, Arkansas in 1945, and completed her Cadet Nurse Corp Training during WWII. The war ended before she saw any active duty. On February 17, 1944, Mary Sue was united in marriage to William T. (Mac) McCubbin at the Presbyterian parsonage in Little Rock. Two children, Sue Ellen and Chris William, were born to his union. As a RN, she worked in hospitals, doctor’s offices and nursing homes in general nursing and supervisory positions until she retired in 1980 due to failing eye sight. Mary Sue was very active as an adult in various churches, including First Baptist, Paris, AR, Highland Park Evangelical Free, Columbus, NE, and the United Methodist, Davenport, Ne. She was also active in many community and educational organizations. Her husband Mac died in 1990 while they were living in Paris, Arkansas and a few years later she moved to Hebron, Nebraska where she has lived until her passing. Mary Sue passed from this life Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the age of 91 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Mac; sisters Violet May Hancock, Lurlin McCubbin, Ruth Hancock, Hazel Kimberling, and Dahlia Hancock; brother Richard Hancock.
