Merton G. Urbauer, the son of Simon and Grace (McLaughlin) Urbauer was born on January 19, 1920, on a farm near

. He died at his home in
Davenport
on February 3, 2013, at the age of 93 years and 15 days. Merton served in the United State Marines from 1940 - 1945. He was captured in Corregidor in May of 1942 and was a POW in
Japan
until the end of World War II. Merton was united in marriage to Jean Meyer on September 30, 1946 in
Hebron
,
Nebraska
. This union was blessed with three children: Jody, John and Barry. Merton worked in the United States Post Office and retired in 1985. He was preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Grace; his wife, Jean in 2004; one sister; and 8 brothers. He is survived by his children: daughter, Jody Urbauer of Hermitage, MO; son, John Urbauer and wife, Deb of Genoa; and son, Barry Urbauer of Davenport; three granddaughters, Cassie Urbauer of Lincoln, NE; Jaime and husband, Jim Kreutz of Giltner; and Betsy and husband, Kent Kurtzer of Lincoln; 4 great-grandchildren: Chelsey, Austin, Phillip and Gracie; many other relatives and friends.
