Norman E. Currey, the son of Frank and Lula (Harris) Currey, was born March 13, 1932, at Hebron, Nebraska. He departed this life on Sunday, October 27, 2013, at Hebron at the age of 81. Norman grew up on the farm a few miles north of Hebron. He attended grade school at the District #48 school. He attended high school in Belvidere where he graduated with the class of 1949. Following his graduation, he worked with his father on the farm until entering the U.S. Navy in 1951. He was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Bremerton and saw duty in the Korean Conflict. Norman was united in marriage to Ila Harmon on December 28, 1952 at the Belvidere Congregational Church. Upon his discharge from the Navy in 1955, he and Ila remained in California where he began his lifelong work with computers. They made their home in California for nearly 35 years living in various cities including Long Beach, Huntington Park, Downey and Fountain Valley. They were blessed with the birth of two sons, Michael Frank and Glenn Dale. In 1987, Norman and Ila returned to Nebraska and made their home in Hebron. Norman worked at Reinke Irrigation Company in Deshler where he continued to be involved with computers. After his retirement, Norman was involved in various organizations and served as president of the Belvidere Cemetery Association for a number of years. He was a member of the Belvidere United Church of Christ. Preceding him in death were his parents, his son, Glenn and his sisters, Bonnie Bell Brown and Phyllis Ames. Survivors include his wife, Ila of Hebron and his son, Michael of Garden Grove, California, other relatives and a host of friends.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013, at 10:00 AM at the Belvidere Congregational United Church of Christ in Belvidere, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
