Norman F. Ough, 99, passed away on June 15, 2022 at St. Luke’s nursing home in Kearney, Nebraska. Norman was born on September 5 th , 1922 in Ohiowa, Nebraska to Fred and Ethel Ough. Norman grew up in the Ohiowa, Shickley and Strang areas. He graduated from Bruning High School in 1940. On February 10 th , 1946 he married Clara Poppe in Hebron, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Ohiowa, Nebraska, then Shickley, Nebraska, until 1960 when they moved to Hebron, Nebraska. Norman and Clara raised a family, six girls and four boys. Norman was a farmer who also sold Murphys’ Feed, then later sold Na-churs Plant Food. He held the position of Regional Sales Manager for Na-churs until his retirement in 1991. After retirement, he worked part-time at Price Funeral Home. Norman enjoyed attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities. Every year until age 97, he planted and tended a large garden, sharing his produce with family, neighbors and friends. He was Soil Conservation Vice-President, a school board member, Past President and charter member of the Thayer County Livestock Feeders Association, a member of the Thayer County Pork Producers, a member of the Fillmore County Artificial Breeders Association, a 4-H Leader for 17 years, Past President and member of Grace Lutheran Church Council and a Sunday school teacher.
Norman is survived by Clara, his wife of 76 years; six daughters, Carolyn Stutzman (George), Kathryn Walker (Randy), Jeanne May, Janelle Brock (Jim), Norma Barbero (Mike), Donna Ough-Murray (Bill); four sons, Roger Ough (Holly), Charles Ough, Wayne Ough (Vanice), David Ough (Fiancee Junelle); twenty grandchildren, George Stutzman Jr. (Julie), Norman Stutzman (Stacy), Bana Stelk (Sean), Samuel Stutzman (Melissa), Albert Stutzman (Cassie), Alvin Stutzman (Amy), Charles Ough (Cynthia), Kimberly Mussman (Chad), Ronald Walker (Emma), Chad Walker (Glenda), Lori Nunnenkamp (Tracy), Andrea Baxter (Jacey), Lisa Hefner, Robin Hobelman (Ashlee), Mindy Walters (Adam), Christopher Brock (Gila), Janna Anderson, Kelsey Barbero, Kiley Kielland (Brandon) and Nick Barbero (Dyeanna); 40 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; sister in law Delores Werner; nieces and nephews.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Merle Ough, James Ough and John Ough; sister Mildred Strain; sisters-in-law Eileen Ough, Imogene Ough, Lois Ough, Lucile Thomas and June Poppe; and brothers-in-law Phillip Strain, Robert Thomas, Robert Werner and Ralph Poppe; son-in-law Maury May; granddaughter Pamela Parker; and grandson Lane Ough.
Visitation will be at Price Funeral Home on Friday, June 24, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Funeral service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 10:00 am. Interment at Chester City Cemetery. Norman requested memorials in lieu of flowers. Memorials should be designated to the family to be decided at a later date.
