Olga Marie Reinke (Kniep), 94, of Davenport, NE passed away August 23, 2021 at Thayer County Health Services in Hebron, NE. Olga was born November 11, 1926 in rural Byron, NE to John Kniep and Katherina (Meinke) Kniep.
Olga lived most of her growing up years near Byron, NE. She was baptized confirmed and married in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, rural Byron, NE. During the depression, the Kniep family moved to CA twice, so she attended 1st grade in CA. The rest of her 8th grade education was in Lone Star District No. 75 School.
Olga was her sickly mother’s helper until her marriage to Werner Walther Reinke on August 17, 1947, when they moved to rural Oak, NE. Their first 3 children were born in a drafty rental house, but in 1953 they moved into their own home, built by Werner where three more children were born.
Olga was a homemaker, gardener, and famer’s helper until Werner’s retirement in 1980 when they moved to Davenport, NE. She took painting lessons and blessed the family with many beautiful scenes. She also crocheted many afghans, baby blankets, and sundry other items, most of which she gave away. She claims she learned to cook from Werner! She loved to play cards, pitch in particular. She and Werner took many trips around the country. Especially, she loved their fishing trips to Minnesota with friends.
After Werner’s death, she frequented the Senior Center in Davenport and made ample use of the local library. Reading her Bible and Christian fiction became her pastimes in later years.
Olga was a very shy and quiet person, but she loved her Lord Jesus Christ and giving her resources to support missionaries and mission organizations was her greatest pleasure. She wants all to know that she is with Jesus!
Preceding Olga in death is her husband, Werner Reinke; son, David Reinke; and an infant son. She is survived by her children, daughter, Judy (Michael) Sivey, Eagle, Idaho; daughter, Donna Meyer, Davenport, Nebraska; daughter-in-law, Kathy Reinke (widow of David), Lincoln, Nebraska; daughter, Karen (Gary) Haake, Oak, Nebraska; son, Stanley (Mary) Reinke, Edgar, Nebraska; and daughter, Mary (James) West, Malcolm, Nebraska; 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Edna Reinke; and a host of nieces and nephews.
