Olinda A. Werner, the daughter of Herman and Christina (nee Meyer) Hoops, was born April 28, 1921, on a farm in Kansas, south of Byron, Nebraska. On May 5, 1921, Olinda was baptized into the Christian faith at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Byron, Nebraska. With her parents, she moved to Deshler, Nebraska, in 1925. On Pentecost, June 9, 1935, she confirmed her Christian faith by confirmation at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler before Pastor F. H. Schwerin. Her memory verse for confirmation was Romans Chapter 8, Verse 28: "We know that in everything God works for good with those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose." Olinda graduated from Deshler High School on May 24, 1940 and after graduation attended school in Kearney. Following that, she taught school and also worked at the AAA office in Hebron. Later, Olinda was employed as the bookkeeper at Christensen's drug store for more than 17 years. On January 23, 1944, Olinda was united in marriage to Harold L. Werner at Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron by Rev. F. H. Schwerin in a double wedding ceremony with Martin and Margery Hoops. Four sons were born to the marriage of Olinda and Harold: David, Steven, Daniel and Richard. During World War II, Olinda followed her husband to Louisiana until Harold went overseas to serve his country. Following World War II, they lived on a farm northeast of Hebron for a time and lived the remainder of their lives in Hebron. Olinda was active in Grace Lutheran Church serving as chairman of Grace Lutheran Church Women and served the church in other offices. She taught Sunday School during the years that her children were attending, she sang in the choir, was a member of the Hebron Bible Club, Library Board, Cancer Society and other organizations. She died on October 10, 2012, at Autumn House in Lincoln, Nebraska, attended by HoriSun Hospice. Her husband, Harold, was the first outstate hospice patient in Nebraska. Olinda was preceded in death by her Father, Herman Hoops (1983), her mother, Christina Hoops (1989), her husband, Harold L. Werner (1980), one son, Richard Werner (2009), one grandson, Jeffery David Werner, two brothers, Wilber Hoops and Elmer Hoops, one brother-in-law, Robert J. Werner and sisters-in-law, Lucile Damm, Erna Reinhardt, Margery Hoops and Margaret Heinrichs. She will be forever remembered by her sons, David H. Werner (Marlene), Steven G. Werner (Cynthia), and Daniel L. Werner (Lori); six grandchildren: Jennifer Werner (Emily Stork), Troy Werner, Cassie Longtin (Ryan), Ryan Werner (Karen), Bradley Werner (Jenna), and Bryce Werner (Philippa); three great grandchildren: Nolan Longtin, Mason Longtin, and Casey Stork-Werner; two sisters, Leona Bruns and Loretta Bangert; and a host of nephews and nieces.
