Richard (Dick) Dumler of Oak NE passed away on November 6, 2024, at the age of 92 following a short illness. He was born in York NE on May 21, 1932 to Rev. Henry and Elsie Dumler. Following graduation from Davenport NE High School he entered the US Air Force and completed over 20 years of service retiring as a SMSgt in 1972. He was a veteran of Korea and Vietnam wars. He was flying crew chief on the B-36 Peacemaker, B-52 Stratofortress and KC-135 Stratotanker in the Strategic Air Command (SAC) and received numerous awards for exceptional meritorious service excelling in every assignment in the Air Force. Following his Air Force retirement, he continued in aviation maintenance serving as leader of the maintenance department for Fix Based Operators in Austin Texas. He was a Designated Airworthiness Representative and continued as an aviation consultant until finally putting his tools down in 2013. Following retirement, he traveled around the country to see the sites in various states. He returned to Davenport NE, his hometown and eventually settled in Oak NE. He enjoyed playing card games and square dancing.
He was preceded in death by his parents Rev Henry Dumler and Elsie Dumler, sister Corinne Weyhrich, brother Kenneth Dumler, sister Elsie Holtzen, brother Martin Dumler, and sister Constance “Connie” Cogger. He is survived by his former wife Hazeldean Dumler Austin TX, son Bruce (Cathy) of Dayton OH, girlfriend Sharon Andersen Oak NE, grandchildren Elizabeth Chicago IL, Emily Colbert (Caleb) of Liberty Township OH, Erin Dumler of Dayton OH and Great-grandson Griffin Colbert of Liberty Township OH. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, friends and veterans.
A funeral with full military honors will be held at Christ Lutheran Church Davenport NE on November 16, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. Interment of ashes will be in Austin TX at a future date. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations in Richard’s name to B-52 Stratofortress Association to support the B-52 Memorial at the Air Force Museum Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
