Rose Ellen Plock, 78, of Deshler, NE passed away on Friday, July 30, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln with her family by her side.
Rose was born to Carl and Erna (Eilers) Hinz on September 9, 1942, on the family farm in Nora, Nebraska. She was baptized on May 13, 1943, at home and was confirmed on February 16, 1958, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Ruskin, Nebraska. Rose attended country school, Nelson grade school, and graduated from Ruskin High School in 1960.
After graduation, she moved to Wichita Falls, Texas. She worked as a carhop, where she met and married her first husband of 22 years, John Leonard Helgeson. The union was blessed with four children and family moves to Minnesota and Nebraska. Rose worked at Hoffman’s packing rice, a local locker plant, and at Reinke’s as a welder for 28 years, and a part-time cleaning position at the post office. It was at Reinke’s that she would meet her second husband of 29 years, Larry Eugene Plock. Larry had two grown children from a previous marriage who she loved as her own.
Rose enjoyed visiting with family and friends, quilting, gardening, picking wild fruit and canning, watching her Christmas cacti and flowers in the yard bloom, riding the utility vehicle around town, baking treats for family holidays and the North Carolina hunters, going to auctions, playing cards and bidding on her partner, her cruise with Larry to Alaska, and trips to Minnesota. She was an active member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church and their quilting ladies group.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sibling, 4 brothers: Eldred Hinz, Raymond Hinz, James Hinz, Leroy Hinz; 2 sisters: Margie Zoch, Gertrude Brandt; and her first husband John Leonard Helgeson.
