Rose Marie Rauner, the youngest daughter of Michael and Mary (Daringer) Hergott was born on a farm near Gilead, Nebraska, on September 25, 1929. She passed away in Hebron, Nebraska, on April 10, 2026, at the age of 96. She was married to Francis Rauner, Sr., for 58 years, who passed away in 2008.

She was baptized in the Catholic faith at Saint Joseph’s Church in Gilead, Nebraska, and confirmed at the Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria, Nebraska. She served on the Altar Society at the Gilead, Alexandria and Hebron Catholic churches. After moving to Hebron, Nebraska, she enjoyed leading the Rosary and attending daily mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

She had a great life being married to her best friend Francis for 58 years and raising 5 wonderful boys. “My greatest success is raising 5 sons to be outstanding gentlemen”. She was a great mother and friend to all those she met and we all enjoyed her smile. She especially enjoyed spending time with her friends and they all became family.

She went to grade school at District #25 at a one room schoolhouse near Alexandria, Nebraska. Her older sister Marie was the teacher and “it was strange to have to call her Miss Hergott”. She attended one year of high school at Fairbury High School in Fairbury, Nebraska and the remainder at Hebron High School in Hebron, Nebraska. She attended one year at Nebraska State Teachers College at Kearney and taught at a one room schoolhouse near her parents’ house. She worked at Hested’s in Fairbury, Nebraska and then got married and lived with Francis Rauner on the farm at Gilead, Nebraska where he was born. After spending 46 years on the farm, she and Francis moved to Hebron and she worked part-time at Kass Ford as a bookkeeper and secretary until she was 90.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, sponsored girls to attend Girl’s State, helped with Blood Mobile drives, served as class reunion contact for Hebron High School Alumni and enjoyed Variety Clubs around Gilead and Hebron.

She was preceded in death by parents: Michael and Mary (Daringer) Hergott; husband, Francis Rauner, Sr.; sisters, Margaret (Lucille Hergott) Wiedel and Herman Wiedel, Burnece (Hergott) Wiedel McKenzie and Ben Wiedel and Ferd McKenzie, Marie (Hergott) Helget and Gerald Helget, Kathleen (Hergott) Landkamer and Michael Landkamer, and brothers, Donald Hergott and Geraldine (Wiedel) Hergott, Edward Hergott and Donna (Horst) Hergott and In-laws Louis Rauner and Dorthy (Connor-Dittmer) Rauner, grandsons, Paul Rauner, Kevin Rauner, and her four-legged companion Bailey.

She is survived by sons; Robert Rauner and wife Yvonne (Reinke) Rauner of Lincoln, Nebraska; James Rauner and wife Mary (Fintel) Rauner of Hebron, Nebraska; Thomas Rauner and wife Deborah (Giles) Rauner of Lincoln, Nebraska; Francis Rauner and wife Marie (Walls) Rauner of Hebron, Nebraska; Alan Rauner of Hebron, Nebraska; 8 grandchildren; Justin (Diane) Rauner, Sarah (Thomas) Martin, Brian (Angie) Rauner, Lynn (Craig) Martin, Jonathan (Erin) Rauner, Joshua (Paige) Rauner, Nicole (Sǎsa) Jošavac and Angel Issacson; 17 great grandchildren; Brendan, Preston (Hannah), Rylee (Keaton), Cameron, Blake, Carson, Chloe, Reagan, Payton, Lillian, Matison, Jencina, Vivienne, Alivia, Aislyn, Zane and Sloane.
