Ruth Margaret Boatman, daughter of William and Hattie (Fett) Harms, was born April 19, 1921 at rural Gilead , Nebraska . She passed from this life Thursday, May 31, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln , Nebraska at the age of 91 years. Ruth attended grade school in Gilead and graduated from Hebron High School with the Class of 1939. She was united in marriage to Virgil L. Boatman on August 31, 1939 in Hebron and to this union five children were born: Gary, John, Margaret, Richard and Janice. Ruth worked in various restaurants as a waitress or cook in Hebron which included managing the VFW in the mid 1970's and was the head cook at the Blue Valley Lutheran Home until she retired in 2002 at the age of 81. She also co-owned and operated Boatman Electric and the Hebron Laundromat with Virgil. Ruth was a member of the United Methodist Church , VFW Auxiliary Post 5328 of Hebron serving as President and a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 1077 of Beatrice. She was an avid Husker fan and enjoyed playing bingo. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband Virgil in 2001; son Gary in 1999; grandchildren Brian Saltzman and Amber Eads; sons-in-law Craig Hyman and Stanley Fentress; sister Vernita Miller and husband Norman; brothers Edward, Harry, Paul, Ferdinand and wife Gladys, Elford, Marie and Esther Harms. She will be forever remembered by her children John & Sharon Boatman, Beatrice, Margaret Hyman, Rockport , TX , Richard and Elaine Boatman, Hebron , and Janice and Bill Shoff, Odell; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother George and wife Rogene Harms, Lincoln; sisters-in-law Beth Harms, Fairbury and Darlene Harms, Lincoln; many other relatives and friends.
