Samuel Richard Summers was born January 26, 1925 to Willie Ross Summers and Helen Inez (Willard) Summers in the Alexandria, Nebraska area. He was raised in this larea his entire life. He passed away at age 85 at the Heritage Nursing Home in Fairbury, Nebraska on January 2, 2011. Sam served in the Unite States Navy during WWII from May 1943 to December 1945. He was Seaman 1st Class/Gunners Mate. Sam entered holimatrimony with Ruth Law on June 7, 1945 in Belleville, Kansas. To this union nine children were born: Susan, Robert, David, Richard, Steven, Andrew, Cynthia, Joseph, and Timothy. Sam was employed through his life working as a mechanic in garages at at one time owning his own establishment. He also worked for several grain elevators in the surrounding towns retiring in 1990. After his etirement, he drove van for the Senior Diners. He was a lifetime member of the Baptist Church. Sam was preceded in death by his parents; son Andrew Duane; great grandaughter Faith Summers; brother-in-law Harold Aasen and nephew Roger Hoge. Sam leaves to celebrate his life: his beloved wife of 65 years Ruth; his children Susan (Goodson) and Lloyd, Robert and Vickie, Dave and Rene', Richard, Steven, Cynthia, Joseph, and Timothy and Sheryl; his sister Frances Aasen; nephews Charles and Pam Hoge, Kenneth and Pam Hoge, Harold and Rosie Hoge; 21 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
