Thomas George Hohl of Lincoln, NE, the son of Tony and Erma Lee Hohl, was born June 22, 1948, in Hebron, at grandpa and grandma’s McLaughlin home. He departed this life on July 23, 2021, at his home in Lincoln, at the age of 73 years.
Tom grew up in Deshler, attending Peace Lutheran School and graduating from Deshler High School in 1966. He was baptized on July 18, 1948, at Peace Lutheran Church by Pastor Fred H. Scherwin. He was confirmed April 15, 1962 also at Peace Lutheran Church by Pastor Erwin Janssen. His confirmation verse was Matthew 6:33.
Tom married Deb Turek in October, 1979, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Lincoln. This marriage ended in divorce several years later.
Tom lived in Deshler for his first 18 years. He then moved to Fairbury, where he attended Fairbury Jr College for 2 years. He moved to Denver where he lived and worked for several years. He then moved back to Deshler to help his dad at Modern Appliance. He spent several years there working with Jess Newman laying carpet and being an electrician’s helper. Tom decided to go back to school at Milford in 1973 to study electricity. Instead of finishing school at Milford, Tom decided to go back into the work force where he worked for Duncan Aviation for over 40 years.
Tom started on the line at Duncan and worked his way up to being in charge of the Fuel Farm for both Duncan and the Lincoln Airport. After 25 years of service, Tom joined the Silver Wings Club at Duncan. He enjoyed the yearly party that the Duncan family held for their loyal employees.
Tom enjoyed many activities during his lifetime. The Cornhuskers were his favorite teams, whether it be football, volleyball, basketball, softball and baseball. He had season tickets for the Lady Huskers Basketball team for several years. He was also a member of the Lincoln Sons of the Legion.
Some 20 years ago, he purchased the trailer rights at Lovewell Lake, in Kansas from his cousins. The family spent many weekends at the lake making a lot of memories. Tom loved to mow the grass with his rider, whether it needed it or not, was in the process of remodeling the trailer and wanting to spend more time there. In 2018 he retired from Duncan Aviation to spend more time at the lake.
Tom is survived by his sister Arlis Hohl, of Deshler, cousins and friends. Virginia Crawford of Denver is his only living Aunt. Mom and dad, grandparents, and other aunts and uncles are all deceased.
