Valerie Jean Crosby, born Valerie Jean Powell, passed away on October 31, 2026, at Thayer County Health Services in Hebron, Nebraska. She was born on November 25, 1955, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Gordan and Ada (Edmonds) Powell and will be remembered with love for the life she lived and the many people who held a cherished place in her heart.

Valerie served her country in the United States Army from January 8, 1976, to December 8, 1977, a chapter of her life that reflected commitment and strength. In her working years, she was employed as a cook for Denny’s Catering and also worked for Blackmer Technologies in Cedar Springs, Michigan. She graduated from high school and later attended college, continuing along a path that shaped the course of her life. Valerie was united in marriage to Donald Stairs on December 19, 2018.

Above all, Valerie will be remembered by those closest to her. She is survived by her husband, Donald Stairs of Hebron, NE; her daughters, Tina Krieg of Jacksonville, FL and Vicki Sikes of Daufaskie Island, SC; her brother, Les Richardson of Hebron; her sister, Martina Wage of Texas; and her niece, Tracy Allen of Texas. Their lives were enriched by her presence, and her memory will remain a lasting source of love and connection.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordan and Ada Powell.

Memorials in Valerie's honor have been designated to National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Mid-America Chapter.

Valerie’s life was marked by service, work, family, and enduring bonds. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
