Velva Elvira Seaman, daughter of Harry and Jennie (Cronk) Clement, was born April 2, 1928 in Ord, Nebraska. She passed away on Friday, April 15, 2016 at the Blue Valley Nursing Home, Hebron, Nebraska at the age of 88 years and 13 days. Velva lived many of her childhood years on a farm in the rural Sand Hills of Nebraska. She attended a rural school and graduated from Ord High School in 1946. She was united in marriage to Jimmie L. Seaman, January 1, 1949. To this union, five children were born: Dennis, Annette, Juanita, Jimmie Alan, and Larry. The family was later blessed with the addition of three more children: Vicki, Bonnie, and Randy. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Chester, Nebraska. Velva was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 51 years, Jim; son Jimmie Alan; son-in-law Ron Eaton; infant grandson Dillon Lee; and brothers-in-law Marion Fowler and Don Long. She will be forever remembered by her son Dennis Seaman and wife Joyce, Lincoln, NE; daughter Annette Eaton and Howard Spitler, Belleville, KS; daughter Juanita Hooper, Billings, MT; son Larry Seaman and wife Carla, Hebron, NE; daughter Vicki Gilkeson and husband David, Concordia, KS; daughter Bonnie Welch and husband Lyle, Hubbell, NE; son Randy Thurber, Lincoln, NE; 12 grandchildren; 15 ¾ great grandchildren; sisters Meda Long and Kathryn Fowler, Ord, NE; best friend Kathy Sutton, Hebron, NE; other relatives and friends.

Velva was a devoted wife and mother. Her family was her pride and joy and she often told Jim, "See what we have done." Early in her married years, she lived in the Belleville area and then moved to Chester/Hubbell where she and Jim raised their family. She worked at Foote’s Café, Swede’s in Hubbell, helped Jim run a dairy farm, raised Dalmatian dogs and Persian cats, and later helped operate the local filling station in Hubbell until their retirement. Velva touched so many lives with her caring and loving ways. She always saw the good in everyone and if you needed something, she would go out of her way to try to make it a reality. She would lift you up with words of encouragement and let you know that someone did care and to never give up. She loved to go on the gambling bus, play cards, visit with friends, listen to music, play bingo, and babysitting with so many of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. We will truly miss this special lady.
