Anna Mae Hinds, daughter of Luther Orville and Lucy Ann Mahan (Gleason), was born in Leach, Oklahoma on November 11, 1928. She was called home to Heaven on October 19, 2019 at Rose Vista Home in Woodbine, Iowa, at the age of 90 years, 11 months, and 8 days. She was the fifth of 7 children and the last surviving member of her family. She spent the first few years of her life in Oklahoma, eventually moving to the western part of Iowa. As a young woman, she taught country school, earning her teaching certification during summer sessions at the University of Northern Iowa. She later taught 6th grade at DeForest School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Richard H. Thompson on June 6, 1954. Richard and Anna, along with 3 or 4 other couples, began meeting together to worship the Lord in Council Bluffs, the origination of the Council Bluffs Church of Christ. The couple was blessed with four daughters, Beverly, Catherine, Denise, and Sandra. Richard died in a drowning accident in February of 1964, leaving Anna to raise her 4 young children. B.C. Ballard, a minister who had been preaching in Davenport, Nebraska, and then in Council Bluffs, introduced Anna to Willard Hinds. This introduction led to wedding bells on June 16, 1967. They were blessed with the addition of son, Russell, in 1970. There was never any feeling of ‘step’ in their family. The Hinds family continued their farm life in Davenport. Ann spent her time raising children, her large garden, and yearly brood of chickens. She taught cooking and sewing at home and with 4-H clubs. She taught Sunday School and VBS for years. She was active with Extension Club and Achievement Board. She became Willard’s partner in farming, often helping to move equipment or driving grain trucks. She was a hard-working woman with her faith in God being a center-post of her being. Anna was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Willard Hinds, her parents, brothers: Virgil (Nadine), Floyd (Consuelo), Raymond (Helen), Luther Alvin (Rita), Leo (Pat) Mahan, sister: Dessie (Lawrence Jackson) Dasher, son-in-law, Loren D.
