Artha Irene (Kretchman) Ficken, daughter of Frank Burdette Kretchman and Bessie Imogene (Striggow) Kretchman was born December 31, 1930 in the Hebron, NE hospital. She was baptized October 4, 1931 in Christ Lutheran Church in Davenport, NE by Rev. John Hershey and confirmed June 4, 1944 by Rev. Henry Dumler. Annie attended District 65 Pleasant Hill Country School southeast of Davenport, NE for 8 years. She then attended Davenport High School for 4 years. She taught country school southwest of Deshler, NE for 2 years, and stayed during the week with the Herbert & Hulda Pohlmann family. She was united in marriage to Raymond Edward Ficken at Christ Lutheran Church on May 28, 1950 by Rev. Henry Dumler. She joined the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in 1950. To the union were born two children, Roxann Rae and Martin Dale. The family lived in the Sedan area, then on the John Keim farm near the Little Blue River near Oak, and then moved to the east edge of Davenport where she lived until 2019. At that time, she moved to Denton, TX to be nearer to her children. She belonged to LWML, Home Engineers Extension Club, Davenport Bible Study Group, and TOPS Club. Later, she also participated in a Bible Class led by Pastor Patrick Flynn. She was well known as a resource for cat information and cared for numerous furry friends during her lifetime. Annie passed away on December 24, 2020 from COVID-related causes. Preceding her in death were her husband, Raymond Ficken, in 2003, her parents, Frank and Bessie Kretchman, Raymond’s parents, Fred and Meta Ficken, sister, Vada Joyce Pearson, brothers-in-law, Robert Pearson, Victor Rohr, Edwin Ficken, and Ervin Ficken, sister-in-law, Berdina Ficken, and nephew, Rick Henkel. Surviving her are daughter and son-in-law, Roxann Rae and Leroy Brennfoerder of Argyle, TX, son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Martin Dale and Shari Ficken of Flatonia, TX. Also surviving her are her grandchildren, Jennifer Elise and her husband, Barry Fox of Argyle, TX, Casi Lynn Ficken of San Antonio, TX, Andrew Todd Brennfoerder of Seoul, South Korea, Martin Dale Ficken, Jr. and his fiancé, Kirby of Seguin, TX, and Joseph Robert Ficken of Austin, TX, as well as her great-granddaughters Audrey Elise Fox and Addyson Jane Fox of Argyle, TX, her nephew, James Pearson of Davenport, NE, her brother-in-law Robert Henkel of Davenport, NE, sisters-in-law Marie Rohr of Fairbury, NE, Elaine Henkel of Davenport, NE, and Donna Ficken of Colby, KS, many nieces and nephews, good friends and many furry cats and kittens.
