DeWayne Donald Schilling 93 of Deshler, passed away at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury, NE on January 18, 2020. He was born on April 16, 1926, in Ogallala, NE to parents, Paul and Frieda Schilling. He was one of 9 siblings. DeWayne is survived by his daughter, Linda McCoy of Deshler and son, Gary Schilling of Englewood, Colorado. DeWayne has 3 grandchildren: granddaughter, Misty and husband Jeff Feightner of Temecula, California; granddaughter, Melissa and husband Tim Steele of Vandergrift, Pennsylvania; and grandson, Brent McCoy of Linden, North Carolina. DeWayne enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17. He remained in the service for four years. After the navy, he did construction work for a few years. He met and married Joyce Hillman whom he met on a blind date July 3, 1950. They lived in Hastings, NE for a few years working at the ammunition plants. He then moved his family to Denver where he worked at Sealtest Dairy for 14 years and then retired from Wonder Bread after 18 years. He then moved back to Deshler in 1989. DeWayne enjoyed taking his long walks and traveling the United States and Canada with Joyce. He also liked gambling with his nephew Keith Hillman
Graveside and burial will be held on January 24, 2020, at 2:00 PM, at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Deshler with Pastor Brian Francik officiating. Casket bearers are Megan Engdahl, Logan Feightner, Haleigh Feightner, Zachary Michaels, Donovan Michaels and Jase McCoy. Honorary casket bearers are DeWayne’s 6 great-grandchildren. There will be no viewing or visitation. Memorials go to the family to be designated later.
