Obituary

Willis Paul Mumm was born November 11, 1923 at home to Fred and Minnie (Howard) Mumm on a farm near Narka, Kansas.  Willis passed away at Heritage Crossing on November 20, 2020. Age 97 years and 9 days.

Willis was the fifth of five children.  He lived his first 5 years on the farm where he was born and then moved 3 miles east of Chester.   As a young boy he attended Hubbell Methodist Church.  Sometimes riding a horse along with his brothers and sisters to Sunday school.  After the death of his father he, with his mother moved to a farm northeast of Chester.  He attended Mount Zion grade school and graduated in Chester with the class of 1941.

He was united in marriage to Claribel Fraley February 2nd, 1956.  To this union was born 3 sons, Paul, Todd, and Blake.

Willis loved farming.  To till the soil and watch things grow was his only interest.  He and Claribel worked side by side working the fields and raising cattle and the dairy herd for many years.  In 1979 they moved to Chester.  Willis longed for the country life, missing it, and in 1995 they had the opportunity to move to a farm south of Geneva, to be close to their son Paul.

Willis spent several years restoring old Case tractors found on farm sales and in tree rows, getting them to run again. He restored a 1937 CC Case like he ran as a child.  He enjoyed reading in his spare time.  He and Claribel spent quiet evenings reading.

He is preceded in death by parents Fred and Minnie Mumm, by his wife Claribel, sisters Iola and Lucille, brothers Kenneth and Elvin.

He is survived by Paul and Brenda of Geneva, Todd and Cindy of Bertrand, Blake and Rhonda of Hebron.  Grandchildren Brian, Andrea, Dustin, Ivan, Whitney, Dillen, Zachary, Madison, Kelby, Laiken, and 10 great grandchildren.
